Last Chance to Have Your Say in Hackney

Motorcycle parking is under threat in London with Hackney running a consultation on charging for motorcycle bays. They would usually have 'drop-in' sessions to present the results of the online consultation but those have now been changed to sessions being held over Zoom and require registration.

Drop-in sessions will take place on the 9th July 4pm to 5:30pm, 17th July 11am to 12:30pm, 23rd July 6pm to 7:30pm, and 5th August 4pm to 5:30pm. You need to register before the event.

Hackney Council are proposing that motorcycles will need a permit to park in any permit holder bay (which will be all motorcycle bays) and the charge would be based on emissions. Visitors would need to display a visitor e-Voucher when visiting friends and family in Hackney (or purchase a cashless parking session for short-stay bays). All free solo-motorcycle bays will be changed to be shared use solo-motorcycle bays - whatever that means - which will end free motorcycle parking in Hackney.

They are also saying that they will install lockable stands at motorcycle bays. How many though and exactly what type? Will this be at every motorcycle bay in Hackney? This might be the sweetener but the suspicion is that it will only be a token effort.

We raised awareness about the consultation back in February.
