MCN have got hold of spy shots of a new Triumph Scrambler 1200. We understand that the model will probably be released next year - so expect an announcement towards the end of this year, probably a debut at EICMA, and the first ones appearing in dealers for March 2019. The MCN article goes into more details.
It makes absolute sense that to compliment the 900cc Street Scrambler Triumph would release a Scrambler variant with the Bonneville T120 engine in it. However this doesn't look like a simple engine transplant, for a start the engine looks more like the Street Scrambler so a lot of engineering has gone into making it, probably, lighter as well as delivering more power than the Street Scrambler.
The twin Brembos also hint at more power - and are a welcome inclusion as the Street Scrambler's brakes do feel a little weak. Also included are long-travel Showa USD forks and Ohlins twin shocks to give more suspension travel. They are really thinking that this could be a scrambler. The downside is that the seat height will be greater... but you can't have everything I guess.
This is an Adventure bike for people who don't like Adventure bikes. A Tiger 1200 for people who don't like Tigers. A Modern Classic with grunt, attitude, and... well we don't actually think it will be taken off road by the majority of owners... but they could do... if there were enough green lanes.
