Despite Triumph not producing the Daytona 675R any more, there seem to be quite a few still being used in racing circles. The 2017 Isle of Man TT Supersport races feature several entries on Triumphs, Gary Johnson and Peter Hickman to name but two and Gary has won on Triumph machinery in the past.
This year the Supersport races are occurring on the 5th and 7th May both starting at 10:45. Both Gary Johnson and Peter Hickman feature in the top ten seeded positions for the Supersport race with Gary starting number 8 and Peter starting number 10. Also seeded is Martin Jessop with the Riders Motorcycles Triumph team at number 18.
Peter is racing with the Smiths Racing team and is looking for a good finish in the Supersport. Gary has formed his own team as he didn't like the bike combinations on offer (he went with Suzuki for the Superbike races). Gary is very keen on the Triumph machinery, and has appeared at several Triumph launch events such as the Street Triple 765 launch back in January. Apparently Gary has received backing from Phil Reed and purchased the two Daytona 675Rs from East Coast Construction (Phil Reed's team) that Lee Johnston had used in 2016.
Here's hoping Gary can win on Triumph again.
