Yes, the Northants branch has been going for 40 years and they celebrated this landmark achievement with a rather lovely cake, which was shown and consumed at the National Club's AGM. The branch made a few presentations to branch members who work tirelessly for the branch.
The first official meeting of the Northampton branch was held on 9th March 1977 and this was the Inaugural General Meeting. On looking at the minutes from that date, it appears that there had been a few informal meetings beforehand, but no records were kept of them. It doesn't say in the minutes where this meeting was held, but it is believed that it was at The Broadmead Pub in Northampton. The branch started with 24 members and a cash balance of £5.64!
Three branch members were presented with awards by the branch Chairman - Leslie Barras, Ian Sargent, and Phil Short - for their outstanding work in running and promoting the branch.
The branch has produced an embroidered cloth patch so that branch members can celebrate the 40th anniversary of forming with them. The patch is also available on a range of clothing - alternatively the usual branch badge can be specified instead.
Here's to another 40 years.
