UK Motorcycle Live Postponed
This year's Motorcycle Live at the NEC (Birmingham, UK) has been postponed. Though if you were thinking of turning up on the day then it has effectively been cancelled. Their statement does not indicate what is happening with tickets that have been booked or stand space that may have already been paid for.
MCIA Initiative to Promote Motorcycle Use
Why we know two-wheels is the solution for the 'new normal'. The campaign is to draw attention to motorcycles & scooters as the answer to not using public transport during the pandemic and of course beyond. A new website has been created along with a radio campaign promoted by Motorcycle News (Bauer Media).
Triumph announce 400 redundancies
240 of those jobs will be at Hinckley. In a statement from Triumph Motorcycles they have announced global job cuts of 400 staff of which more than half will be at Hinckley. Exactly which jobs are going have not been specified at this stage but this apparently does include the 50 job cuts that were announced previously.
British GP 2020 Cancelled
The FIM, IRTA and Dorna Sports regret to announce the cancellation of the British and Australian Grands Prix. The ongoing coronavirus outbreak and resulting calendar changes have obliged the cancellation of both events. If you booked a ticket you can choose whether to transfer it to 2021 or get a refund.
England Dealer Network open from 1st June
From 1st June Triumph dealerships in England will be back open for business following advice received from the Motorcycle Industry Association (MCIA). Social distancing rules are being practiced by all the dealerships. No news for Scotland, Wales, or Northern Ireland but Dublin Triumph is back open already.
Triumph launch Bond Edition Scrambler 1200
Limited to 250 models world wide, Triumph are launching a version of their excellent Scrambler 1200 motorcycle range to celebrate the machine being used in the forthcoming 007 James Bond movie. It will retail at £18500 in the UK (€19500 in Europe, $18500 in the USA) and is based on the Scrambler 1200 XE.
ACU and AMCA plan return to Motorcycle Sport
The ACU, in partnership with the ACMA, have decided that a phased return to sporting events will commence in parallel with the UK Government's Step Three. This will coincide with the reopening of all remaining business, public places and leisure facilities which have been required to close during the crisis.
UK Government Supporting Motorcycle Use
The Secretary of State for Transport, Grant Shapps, has recognised motorcycles as an important form of transport. In response to a question by Julian Lewis - a member of the All Party Parliamentary Group on Motorcycling - Mr Shapps agreed that motorbikes play a key role in delivering billions of commuting miles in the country.
